Top 100 Songs of 2016: The Year-End Chart

“Love Yourself” by Justin Bieber was the biggest hit of 2016, finishing at No. 1 on the year-end Top 100 ahead of “Sorry” by Justin Bieber and “One Dance” by Drake. The year-end chart ranks the songs that performed best across the whole year, not just in a single week.

23 acts placed more than one song on the list, led by Drake (6), The Weeknd (4), Justin Bieber (3), Twenty One Pilots (3), Adele (3). 14 of the 100 were holdovers from the 2015 list, so 86 songs were new to the year-end chart.

The 2010s: the sound of the era

Streaming changed the charts in the 2010s. On-demand streams began counting toward the pop chart in 2012, and the year-end lists filled with EDM-flavored pop, trap-influenced hip-hop and long-running smashes that stayed on the chart for most of a year.
